Search Engine Optimisation

Question: Are you realising your online potential?

Are you getting in on the action, have you had your piece of the cake yet, No? Don’t worry you’re not alone many businesses have yet to fully realise their potential online. A stunning website is one thing but being found is a totally different game. That’s where search engine optimisation comes into its own.

 Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

What does it mean? Simply put it’s the process of improving your websites positioning within the search engines, increasing the volume of quality targeted traffic to realise a greater lead and / or conversion rate for your business.

All of the websites we now create are search engine ready, or optimised as its known, giving you the best possible start online, and wouldn’t it be easy if that was the end of it. Sadly that’s not the case search engine optimisation should be considered a long term strategy for any business looking to succeed online.

As the internet evolves so to do search engine algorithms (the way in which search engines place importance on your website and apply its ranking), together combined with your competitors approach to SEO and the arrival of new websites you can be assured your website ranking will change unless you keep on top of your search engine optimisation.

So what makes up search engine optimisation?

There are many factors to consider when optimising your website for the search engines, these are broken down into two main categories, on page and off page optimisation below we explore these areas a little further:

 On Page Optimisation

-Copy (content): As the saying goes content is king. The single biggest factor that search engines take into account is your content. Continual improvements to search engines algorithms to ensure relevant search results are not only maintained but improved upon for its users mean that it has never been more important to ensure that your content is compelling, informative and relevant to search terms to stand a fighting chance of being found, and more importantly found above that of your competitors.

-Code, Structure & Design: It’s about more than purely validation your code and the way in which your site is structured are key factors when considering optimisation. A well coded website stands more of a chance with the search engine spiders than one that isn’t. A fast loading website with a good structure and relevant meta data speak volumes in terms of how your website is ranked.

 Off Page Optimisation

Get your content right and you’ll get plenty of inbound links to your website. Inbound links (link popularity) are of key importance to search engine rankings in terms of optimisation criteria. The main search engines adore high quality, relevant inbound links. Caution should be exercised though in undertaking any link campaign, you can do as much harm as good by employing an ‘any link will do’ approach. Link sources can include but are not limited to directories, articles, blogs, press releases and social media.
